Catharium

Catharium was one of my biggest game projects with a team of 12 people. Catharium is a story/ puzzle game based in an unknown hotel. In this project, I was the main and only programmer. So I created all of the game systems and puzzles. Apart from the dialogue system, which was fungus. I also managed and created the GIT hub where all the team members would upload their work. In this project to help out with the lack of models, I learnt blender so I could create some 3D models for the game.

What I learnt:

  • Working in a team with agile

  • Different puzzle systems

  • How to create the designs of other people

  • Communicating with designers, writer and artists to get the work in engine.

  • Unity's different render pipelines

  • Post-processing

  • Intergrading different systems into one game

  • Multiple scenes which allowed the other team members to work on their areas of the game without getting GIT commit issues.

  • I learnt to use GIT and manage a multi-branch GIT.

  • I learnt how to create some 3D models in Blender.

  • I learnt how to UV map 3D models in Blender.

What I would Improve:

If I could improve the game I would make it so there is one puzzle that gets harder as the game goes on, not making new puzzles for each puzzle section. I would also have more particle effects in some of the areas to add more mystery to the game.

Catharium is a narrative focused, first-person puzzle game. You play as Thomas Drewitt, a man who wakes up in a hotel unsure of how and why they are there. He is greeted by a Detective who is seeming to be investigating a murder. Compelled into helping the Detective, Thomas soon discovers all is not as it seems and he must solve puzzles to progress through the hotel and ultimately unveil the truth.
